Yeah I'm done now...

So erm yeah this is it. The final poster after a bit of tweaking in photoshop which improves the colour tone and in a reasonable printing quality for A2 size. Also added a clean white border to make the image look more harmonised. Done.

11.3.11

A final bit of poster tweaking. No harm done.

After exploring different colour combinations and text sizes which is shown throughout in my sketchbook, here are the final photos for print experimenting with possible layout options...

First style - Simple centre alignment with date on the right. Simple and clean.
Second Style - The word "paper" has been spread out to create it a more dynamic layout. I like it better already.
Third Style - Had a sudden urge to spread out the "100" after that "paper" adjustment. Definitely is a difference in impact.
Forth Style - Noticed the black bar at the bottom was going to waste. Added the year centrally aligned as well as the month to make it a more streamlined layout. The yellow black card really enhances the yellow tones. This is my favourite one of all.

I hearts Macro.

A few more continuation shots of my work in progress for my final poster...

The final Poster working in progress shots.

After much experimentation, designs, and ideas expressed throughout here and in my sketchbook, its time to get this poster on a roll...

Here are some shots of my progress...

When coloured card finally comes in handy.

Over the years Ive been collecting coloured card and its been sitting there not being put into good use much. However with this discovery of creating a new typeface from folding, the coloured card can now be potentially used in a number of ways...

The Background of an image...

The colour of text...

The coloured card experiment was an excellent one as it gave me an understanding of working with paper at different widths. For example my name in this paper exercise used the width of paper strips at 2cm while;
  • celebrate - 0.5cm width
  • something - 1 cm width
  • good - 1.5 cm width
It was also interesting to understand what colours do work and don't together, especially when you've got over 5 or 6 colours on a page. It's important to balance it right so the image is not too overpowering or confusing to the reader.

Finally, I love how the use of colour throughout really enhances the images to become really aesthetic. These discoveries will definitely be taken into consideration when it comes to actually making my final poster.

A new Discovery of Paper offcuts..

When thinking of how to further expand creating handmade text, all that kept coming to mind was stenciled out paper lettering. Then I stumbled across an advert on the Internet promoting the London Olympics with their famous logo and gorgeous typeface..

I just happened to have a large number of white paper offcuts when creating the sculptures for Task 1. And I started folding them to create letters, and this is when the eureka moment happened...

By creating folds in the disused paper strips I was able to create a unique 3D typeface with complete control how I would like to display them compared to a stencils where once its been cut, its been cut. I also loved how these letters formed when photographed as they all created their own qwerky shadows when taken at different angles.
